Hey Dear Children:
Oma's well. People are happy to see me, and I have been well-received, with the lawyers, at Landmark, at synagogue, everywhere really.
They say Dwight Eisenhower was an amazingly efficient person. It's reported that part of what made him this is a matrix he used to prioritize the activities in his life. It centered around the idea of what is important and what is urgent.
The idea is that too often we waste time on things that are urgent instead of what is important. I mention this now because what is important to me is writing to you, but I let the urgent get in the way, the "David, would you please put the suitcases up in the attack," or even just answering a phone when it rings, as the one next to me is doing right now. (I let mom answer it.) And my phone just buzzed, but it's certainly not as important as this e-mail, or at least that's what I say.
The thing is we can let those other things get in the way (I kind of have it that it's urgent that I create some success in business, that my Stamford Facebook page be maintained, that I go through the shit on Pop's desk, that I communicate with my ILP participants, blah blah blah blah blah), so I get a little freaked out, a lot overwhelmed, a lot make myself wrong, that I don't do everything.
The thing is I cant' do everything, but if I take some time and arrange my life, I should be able to do what is important.
And most of the urgent is just a lack of good plannig to take care of the un or less important.
Do I need to pay the water bill, yes. Is it important? That depends on how long I haven't paid it. But if I set myself up correctly, it never has to rise to the level of important.
The thing is most emergencies are just a result of poor planning. And if you plan properly, you can really delegate most of the things that are not important, or at least create a filtration system. Tim Ferris checks his e-mail once or twice a day. When you set people up for that, they get what's important. And if they can't live with that, you don't want them on your team anyway.
So, I didn't mean to sound so coachy. But I do invite you to figure out what it is that's important to you, and share it, so we can support you in that.
I send You all My Love, whatever that means. If I send it all, how can I have any left. And if I have any left, how could I have sent it all, or doesn't it work that way. What do you think?
